Even those who were raised in the church and enjoy the Lenten season and like the traditional observations of Lent, comment that most Lenten services are dark and filled with Law. After all, we supposedly put Christ on that cross. Law. But we actually didn’t. Christ chose that cross for us. Love. We all need to be reminded that this season is not about what we give up, it is about what has been given up for us. Love. But there are still deeply held traditional views that Lent should be about the self-reflection of our sinfulness, more disciplined practice for our Christian lives, and penitence because the whole Lenten season culminates with our Savior dead and buried in a tomb. No matter how we try to spin it, it is the Law that brings death. Only love can bring life. Given these observations, we are making a modest shift in our own observance of Lent and reclaim it as a season of love.
What's been keeping you from all that God wants to give you? Good Friday is how God removed that barrier - because Good Friday is all about God's love, and "Love Means Freedom."
The hope of Palm Sunday - our hope is built on the love of Jesus for His Father as He does His Father's will. Our hope is built on the perfect love of God the Father, which enables us to do the one thing for which we were created - to be in a relationship with God and with each other.
